Short Term Missions

Short Term Missions

For those of you who have computer savvy, you may enjoy Googling things to find out what’s out there on the web. It’s amazing how many Scott Mann’s there are in this world and one of these days I may head up to Eau Claire to meet the Scott Mann of that area.

I did Google “Christian Mission Trips” the other day, since it’s time for me to begin praying about where our adult and youth teams will go this year. And it came up with 29 million 600 thousand results for that search. What an awesome amount of information when it comes to Christian Mission!

Wikipedia, a free online encyclopedia, created and edited by volunteers around the world had this to say about Christian Mission, “A Christian mission is an organized effort to spread Christianity. Missions often involve sending individuals and groups, called missionaries, across boundaries…This involves evangelism, and humanitarian work, especially among the poor and disadvantaged. There are a few different kinds of mission trips: short-term, long-term, relational and ones meant simply for helping people in need…”

Samaritan’s Purse who I have worked with for our adult mission groups states that they are a
non-denominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world.

As members of the Body of Christ and through our congregation at Gloria Dei, I love it when I see people helping others in need. Whether it’s mission trips, the wheelchair ministry, hunger haven, making quilts, putting shoe boxes together, helping out at the food pantry or just mowing a neighbor’s lawn, it’s amazing how God works through the hands and hearts of the faithful.

As the Apostle Paul said, “For we do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake” (2 Corinthians 4:5, NIV).

If you’d like to know more about our mission trips or how you could help in some way right in our own community. Talk to any of us here at the church and we’ll be glad to share with you how God is working right here and right now.

In Jesus’ Name,
Pastor Scott .
